Bar Code Reader are special device used to read bar codded data. Bar code is a specialized code used for fast identification of items. It consists of a series of small lines, known as bars. The actual coding of the bars is the width of the bar and spacing of parallels line not the height. It can be scanned by special optical scanners that is called a bar code reader. These are primarily used for identification of goods, such as books, postal packages, badges,etc. The bar code was invented by Norman Joseph Woodland and Bernard Silver and patented in the US in 1951. The invention was based on Morse code that was extended to thin and thick bars. However, it took over twenty years before this invention became commercially successful.
